KEITH LONG: FINANCIAL
CONTROLLER
When I first
met my wife
we were a holiday romance, meeting
each other on a sailing holiday in
Greece with mutual friends. We have
just come back from taking the family
on a similar sailing holiday almost
20 years later!!
When
I was 10, I hated bullies at
school who would pick on other kids
for no reason. I still do and will
go out of my way to confront them,
especially in the
workplace.
My
biggest challenge is balancing
my and my families commitments to
make sure that I can support and perform
to the best of my abilities.
The
best piece of advice I can offer for
managing personal finances is
plan how you want to live your life,
then make sure you spend less than
you earn. Measure how you are doing
regularly so any surprises can be
dealt with early rather than becoming
shocks, invest in assets not liabilities.

I’m
competitive both in and out of work
I probably compete against myself
harder than I do against others and
have come to realise that winning
at all costs does not create a winner
in the long-term. I believe that being
competitive at work keeps your ideas
fresh as you always strive to do a
better job than before and help drive
the business forward.
My
family are incredibly important
to me and are the reason I have chosen
to balance my life the way I have
rather than spend all waking hours
chasing £s in a full time role.
In
my dreams, when I make my millions,
I’m going to spend more
time sailing and getting myself fitter,
but also use some of those funds and
my experiences helping small businesses
grow.
