LIVEWIRE CHRISTMAS CARD
2008 DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE
CHARITY?

Matt and Victoria are already working on our 2008 Christmas card. It’s a terrific concept and will enable clients to pledge a donation to one of three charities. If you have a charity that is especially close to your heart for any reason, please let us know so that we can consider it when it comes to making our choices at the end of September. Please send any thoughts by email to Matt by 30 September.

NEW MEDICAL WRITING
GUIDELINES

Our new medical writing guidelines have been circulated to all medical writers and project managers working with LiveWire and will be given to new writers before starting any projects. Several of our top writers collaborated on the content of the guidelines, which are designed to ensure that the work we produce is of consistently high quality.

They are available on the LiveWire shared drive in the ‘LiveWire’ folder, or you can contact Tracey to email them to you.

NEW IDEAS
David Harrison won a £25 M&S voucher for the contributions he made to the medical writing guidelines. David emailed us to suggest the following:

Writing test – a lot of companies ask new writers to carry out a short writing test before they are accepted by the company.

Briefing sheet – when I worked at GW, we always worked with the internal ‘client’ to complete a briefing sheet before setting out on a new project. The idea is to get a better idea of what the client wants before embarking on the project.

Checklist – we also developed a checklist for the writer to complete before circulating a manuscript for comment. This was for the writer to check that the manuscript conformed to the CONSORT guidelines and that a whole battery of editorial checks were done.

Peer review – sometimes with a new writer, it’s a good idea to get a writer you trust to give the writing the once over before it gets sent to the client.
