Livewire people: Neil Madden, a member of Livewire's Devon 'cell', says "I studied chemistry at the University of London, and then joined the pharmaceutical industry as a representative. For a few years I was then a professional conference and exhibition organiser with the Royal College of Nursing (Publications/Nursing Standard), before entering international agency life.
  I actually became freelance when I moved to Devon (for family reasons), because there are no pharmaceutical companies or agencies down here. Being freelance allows to me the flexibility to have a parallel career as a teacher, and I teach music and English as well as some private tutoring for GCSE sciences.
 

There are some very interesting years ahead for the industry. I think most of us are aware of the issues. However, most of the changes and schisms we're seeing – like the parallel with the financial world - are probably symptoms rather than causes.

 

My belief is that there is an underlying systematic change afoot, of which the pharmaceutical industry (and the agency world) is only just beginning to understand the implications. And I'm very interested to be a small part of those changes through being involved in medical education and digital media technology."
